Dr. Mukherjee works as an assistant professor at School of Social Work, Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He has earned his Bachelor of Arts with History major and Film Studies minor from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India, Masters in Social Work from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India and Ph.d from the University of South Carolina, USA. Dr. Mukherjee specializes in the use of social network theory, social capital theory and social network analysis as they relate to civil society, cyberculture, social gerontology and international social development. Dr. Mukherjee has undertaken a new study on apply the social network perspective to understand the elder abuse. Before assuming his academic position, he had worked with the World Bank as a consultant on rehabilitation and displacement of urban slums in India and with Tata Tea Ltd on corporate social responsibility. He has held visiting and adjunct positions at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, India, the Mudra Institute of Communication and Advertisement, Ahmedabad India, and the University of South Carolina, USA. Dr. Mukherjee chairs three study abroad programs in India, China and Bangladesh focusing on social development issues. He has published in both national and international journals and has showcased his presentation in conferences across the board.
